The terrible consequences of forced abortion of the disabled
By Nancy Flanders

U.K. Independence Party (UKIP) candidate Geoffrey Clarke recently sparked outrage
by calling for the forced abortions of unborn children diagnosed with Down syndrome,
spina bifida, or any "similar syndrome which, if it is born, will render the child
a burden on the state as well as on the family." UKIP suspended him, and Clarke
apologized, saying that he expressed his views poorly and does not believe in compulsory
abortion. Whether he does or doesn't, there are plenty of people worldwide who do
believe that children with disabilities should be eliminated before birth. In fact,
eugenics in America is nothing new. It's long been thought by many people from Margaret
Sanger to Theodore Roosevelt that certain people are a burden on society. Over history,
target groups have included the poor, African Americans, and people with disabilities.
In the past, the solutions offered were birth control and forced sterilization.
Over time, abortion has become a go-to solution for weeding out the supposed undesirables.

With the sequestration, many federal programs have been given less money to work
with. But one organization - Planned Parenthood - has stood tall above all the
rest. In fact, it may have even been given some extra cash. While even the funds
for children touring the White House were eliminated, Paul E. Rondeau of the American
Life League (ALL) tells American Family News how Planned Parenthood's federal funds
were affected. "Hah! Planned Parenthood's budget, as far as I can tell, actually
may have gone up by a half-billion dollars between the mandates in ObamaCare and
the actual tax dollars that only Planned Parenthood will be able to get its hands
on," he reports.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The HHS mandate is an assault on sensibilities. Worse, it's perpetuating the real
'war on women' along with the myths about a phony one, because the drugs being claimed
under the umbrella of 'women's preventive health services' are actually dangerous
for women's health. Who's talking about that? Dr. Angela Lanfranchi, for one. She's
president and co-founder of the Breast Cancer Prevention Institute and one of the
nation's leading authorities on the causes of breast cancer and reasons for the
soaring incidence of it over the past several decades.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The trial details are nothing short of sensational: A doctor accused of killing
seven newborns and a young woman at a filthy Philadelphia clinic strewn with body
parts and described as a "slaughterhouse." It's big news in Philadelphia, but nationally,
not so much. The lack of coverage is a problem for a growing chorus of conservative
and media critics, who allege that the scant national media attention can be attributed
not to the courtroom drama but the politics of abortion.

AROUND THE PLANET

"John Doe, an upstanding professional with no outstanding criminal convictions and no history of violent action received a letter from the Pistol Permit Department informing him that his license was immediately revoked upon information that he was seeing a therapist for anxiety and had been prescribed an anxiety drug. He was never suicidal, never violent, and has no criminal history. The New York State Department of Health is apparently conducting a search of medical records to determine who is being treated for anxiety drugs and using this as a basis for handgun license revocation.
"Those are the facts. Nothing more, nothing less."

Pope Francis's appeal for peace on the Korean Peninsula "was a consolation for all of us living in North Korea. Even though the government did not give much publicity to the event (Urbi et Orbi blessing on 31 March), we heard about it. Like him, we hope for peace. We do not want to be isolated from the rest of the world," said a North Korean Christian. Anonymous for security reasons, he spoke to a source working at the border who relayed the information to AsiaNews.

According to the source, "there will be no war. Our bishops are right; it is a matter of political balance in the North and humanitarian aid. Pyongyang cannot lose face, so all these threats have to produce something. But it is hard to know whether there will be a land invasion or an attack against US or South Korean military sites. Whatever the case, we must pray, as the pope said, for there to be peace and a new reconciliation in Korea. "

One hundred and eighty two followers of a Catholic prophet who claims to see visions of the Virgin Mary were sentenced today in a Burundian court.

The disciples of 30 year-old prophet Zebiya were sentenced up to five years in jail for defying police orders.

The prophet followers were arrested on Tuesday morning after defying a ban to gather on a hilltop that has become a place of pilgrimage.

Zebiya has reportedly seen visions on the hill on the 12th day of every month.

"Fifteen adults thought to be the leaders of the group were sentenced to five years each," Elie Ntunwanayo, Burundi Supreme Court spokesman said.

Court documents showed that 182 people had been sentenced, with jail terms varying between three years and six months.

"They were all arrested and sentenced for civil disobedience," Ntunwanayo said.

Twenty children under 14 years-old were released by the court.
